RRT Became the Legal Mandatory Designation for RTs

In RT practice:

• Ventilator liberation through spontaneous breathing trials becomes increasingly more common practice.
• RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) became the legal mandatory designation for Respiratory Therapists  (GRT – Graduate Respiratory Therapist and PRT – Practical Respiratory Therapist, as well) when it was passed into law by the Ontario Government on May 31, 2005.
• 2,289 Respiratory Therapists in Ontario (1,604 female and 685 male).

The year 2005 was an important time for technology with the USB flash drive officially replacing floppy discs and the launching of YouTube. That’s right folks, our go-to video tool for everything from grumpy cat to news reels didn’t exist until nine years ago! This year also saw terrible devastation in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest storms in history.
