In the RT profession, the Respiratory Therapy Act (RTA) is amended to include a Prescribed Substances regulation, enabling Respiratory Therapists (RTs) to independently administer oxygen in certain settings. The Quality-Based Procedures (QBP) initiative is introduced in Ontario and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) emerges in Saudi Arabia. The CRTO launches the new GROW Professional Development Framework. 3,067 RTs registered in Ontario (2,199 female and 868 male).

A great year for movies, 2012 saw the release of Django Unchained, The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers and The Hunger Games.
